DO NOT MISS Marie Brassard's JIMMY on for four nights next week (read below) - this is a totally out of this world existential enchanting exploration of desire, and the best genderfuck performance I have ever seen. ET allez voir l'expo de Waterhouse mise-en-scene par none other than Nathalie Claude, and lit by the ever talented Lucie Bazzo. Beautifully displayed luscious paintings of beautiful ladies. L'expo est au Musee des beaux-arts jusqu'au 7 fevrier.

6pm, McGill University, Leacock Building, Room 232 (855 Sherbrooke West)
Silas Howard, filmmaker and former member of Tribe 8, will investigate outsider stories in film, exploring how experimental and queer theories interact with classical structure and transgressive narratives in film. Silas will focus on the power of transformative loss, grief and humor and the relationship to a transgender representation in his work. Clips will be shown from Rise Above; the Tribe 8 Documentary, narrative feature By Hook or By Crook, short documentary What I Love About Dying, his new short film, Blink, and excerpts from his solo show, Thank You For Being Urgent. Created in 2001, Jimmy is a beautifully haunting tour-de-force about a homosexual hairdresser who came to life in the dream of a homophobic American general in the 1950s. Jimmy falls in love with a soldier, and just before their first kiss, the general's heart stops beating... and Jimmy remains suspended in that precise moment, filled with an exquisite sensation of pure pleasure. Fifty years later, Jimmy comes back to life, this time, to his despair, imprisoned in the dreams of a Montreal actress. In her wild, erotic and absurd dreams, he is metamorphosed into a strange creature of uncertain gender.

A clash of cultures, styles and times, reality and fiction, The Glass Eye is a play within a play made up of reflections about celebrity, theatre, movies, sex and love. The starting point is Louis' faux memoir, which tells the story of Irving, a young Jewish homosexual who lives a stifling life in Toronto in the 1940s. Unable to deal with the restrictions imposed by a rigid society, Irving invents himself an alter ego, Polo, an extraverted actor who moves to Montreal and becomes, among celebrities and gangsters, an important member of the underground night-clubbers society that flourished in the fifties.
