| Whether you’re off to the Jazz, Film or Comedy Festival, Theatre or Montreal Symphony Orchestra...Baton Rouge is the place to meet before or after any event in Montreal!
Across from Place des Arts, Baton Rouge is undoubtedly one of the best restaurants in Montreal for enjoying quality Louisiana style food. Being a hot spot there’s always a crowd but it’s well worth the short wait. Surrounded by bick, wood, the comfort of cozy high-backed booths and round tables guests enjoy Baton Rouge’s well known appetizers, salads, and grill that have made this restaurant one of our city’s most visited places since its opening in 1995.
For starters we chose the Louisiana Spinach Dip: a blend of spinach, artichoke hearts and imported cheese served with crunchy tortillas chips, sour cream and spicy sauce, we also enjoyed the Chicken Tenders which came lightly fried in homemade tempura-like batter atop a bed of fries with two dipping sauces of Honey Dijon and BBQ on the side.
The Seared “Sushi Grade” Tuna Salad is a must try… 6 ounces of lightly seared tender melt-in-your-mouth tuna with ginger & lime vinaigrette, toasted sesames and mixed greens… absolutely exceptional!
As we perused the wine list the manager, Christina Fegitis, who has been with the restaurant since the opening, shared that Baton Rouge offers a specialty wine list. This allows guests to experience wines not found on the menu. She recommended “Barbera D’Asti” a Mondial Selection 2002 from Italy. This wonderful oak-tasting wine complimented our main courses of mouth-watering Baby Back Ribs and Jumbo Shrimp, and the 16 oz. Rib Steak perfectly. All main dishes are served with a choice of one: Mashed or Baked Potatoes, Creamed Spinach, Steamed Vegetables or choice of two: French Fries, Coleslaw, Skillet-Baked Beans or Hot Cinnamon Apples. The ribs, cooked over a live wood fire, were meaty, tender and covered with a delicious BBQ sauce and served with smooth garlic mashed potatoes. The Rib Steak was cooked to perfection and came with Creamed Spinach and a side order of pepper sauce
If you think you’re too full, WAIT! You simply must try Baton Rouge’s famous desserts! The Southern Style Hot Apple Cobbler with walnuts and vanilla ice cream or the Hot Deep Chocolate Walnut Brownie with vanilla ice cream and kahlua sauce are out-of-this-world!
Baton Rouge accommodates all: highchairs and changing room for children, handicap friendly, and the “Train” (a private room upstairs) for big groups. The large bar offers quick service, the main dining room menu and a few lower priced specials. The restaurant is open for lunch at 11:00 am. to 4:00 p.m. and continues with the dinner menu from 4:00 p.m.to 11:00 p.m. on weeknights and midnight on weekends.
Bon Appetite…and by the way, it’s okay to lick your fingers! |
