Nikki Yanofsky in concert for one exceptional evening as part of the Montreal
International Jazz Festival’s “Jazz All Year Round” series…
Wed., November 11 – 8 p.m.
at Salle Pierre-Mercure
Show to be taped for PBS-TV special next March
Since winning over more than 100,000 hearts at her debut at the 2006 Montreal International Jazz Festival, Montreal’s 15- year-old musical prodigy, Nikki Yanofsky, has never looked back. She was the youngest singer ever on a Verve Records release, when she recorded Airmail Special for the Ella Fitzgerald tribute album, We All Love Ella: Celebrating the First Lady of Song, alongside such musical luminaries as Etta James, Linda Ronstadt, Diana Krall and Natalie Cole. She has also recorded Gotta Go My Own Way for Disney’s smash hit High School Musical 2, which was included on the French and English Canadian soundtrack releases and which was released worldwide on the DVD. Nikki can also been seen, singing (and dancing!) in the title sequence of PBS’s children’s series, The Electric Company. She has also appeared on PBS’s youth talent showcase, From the Top, and was the feature artist on YTV’s The Next Star.
Over the past 18 months, Nikki has headlined at jazz festivals in Japan, Jamaica and throughout Canada (including a special outdoor concert for the 30th Anniversary of the Montreal International Jazz Festival this past July). She has also toured the U.S. with renowned composer-conductor Marvin Hamlisch, appearing with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C., as well as the symphonies in the Seattle, San Diego and Milwaukee. The highlight performances were in New York City - appearing with the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall and the New York Philharmonic at Lincoln Center. Nikki has also shared the stage with numerous celebrities, including, Liza Minnelli, Céline Dion, Lionel Richie, Wyclef Jean, Sarah McLachlan, John Mayer, John Legend, Avril Lavigne and Matt Damon.
Of special note, Nikki has used her growing notoriety to help the needy and less-fortunate. She has performed at a wide variety of fundraising events throughout the country, and is the youth ambassador for the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation.
In September 2008, Nikki released the critically-acclaimed, live concert performance CD and DVD, Ella… of Thee I Swing, which earned her two Juno nominations in 2009: New Artist of the Year and Vocal Jazz Album of the Year, as well her being awarded Favourite Jazz Artist at the 2009 Canadian Independent Music Awards. Nikki is currently recording her first studio album with 14!time Grammy Award!winning producer Phil Ramone… scheduled to be released internationally in the new year.
The Nov. 11th concert, which will be recorded in high definition for an upcoming PBS special, will feature Nikki backed by a 10-piece band, performing a vibrant and dynamic mix of original songs and jazz classics… as only Nikki Yanofsky can deliver.
