Meet The New Mayor Of Montreal Valerie Plante
Valerie Plante took office this morning as the first female mayor of Montreal. She was welcomed by excited on lookers and was seen taking her time to talk and shake hands to the many montrealers that came out to greet her.
Plante said she was satisfied with her campaign and would be humbled to shatter the glass ceiling of Montreal’s highest elected office.
“We made history together. We did it together,” Plante told an excited crowd at the Corona Theatre in Little Burgundy on Sunday night. “Tonight, we wrote a new page in Montreal’s history. Three hundred and seventy five years after Jeanne Mance co-founded the city, Montreal has its first woman mayor. And I’m excited to write the continuation of this history with all of you.”
Five priorities to Move Montreal forward for the next year from The Projet Montréal platform of Valérie Plante:
-BUILD A BETTER TRANSIT SYSTEM. (Purchase of 300 hybrid buses to relieve congestion in Montreal.Begin negotiations for social pricing and free fares for our elderly and children under 12 years of age.)
–TAKE CONTROL OF CONSTRUCTION SITES AND ENSURE BETTER PLANNING.
-PROVIDE MORE EFFICIENT SERVICES TO CITIZENS A MORE EQUITABLE SYSTEM OF TAXATION.
-BUILD HOUSING THAT MEETS THE NEEDS OF MONTREALERS.RETHINK STREET AND INTERSECTION DESIGN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF SENIORS, YOUTH, CYCLISTS AND PEDESTRIANS.
